I can put my money on Mphatso  Misomali that She will the first Malawian  woman to be featured on the cover of French Vogue, because I know a good thing when I see one.

She has been rejected by Malawi fashion week judges that she is not fit to be a model and I beg to differ on this one.

Mphatso  possibly has the most unique look out of all models I have seen in Malawi and when I heard that she was snagged by the organizers of the Malawi fashion week , I thought who ever made that judgment was intoxicated on an insane root or was still living under a rock somewhere.

Mphatso has been currently been scouted  grace the only Brand of make up to be invented by Malawian  Ome Creations which will be officially be activated on the 30^th of June 2013 at the swanky Ryalls Hotel  in the commercial city of Blantyre.

This Malawian upcoming  sensation will impress, the momentum that  will begin with Ome creation exclusive and and just pray that she doesn’t end up in the scandalous local papers . Her baby Bardot looks will bewitch the most exclusive of clients.

There are certain rare shows that you want to see again and again. “Nudes of Liberty”, is such an event. Two of the rarest artists condensed into a single, vast spectacle of creative geniuses, it has the power to change the view of art in Malawi..

I can’t forget the opening foyer at Ryalls Hotel: the shattering sight of a seductive figures with inviting eyes and long curls twisting in the deep blue darkness, head thrown back in ecstasy, or was it anguish? We didn’t know if the Bruno Matumbis abtracts  were engaging  or some of the painting seemed like two spent swimmers clinging together but on a deep look,turning out to be two grown ups making out and everyone fell silent with amazement. These life-like satyr were fished out of the Brunos mind  ever since he was conceived in the mothers womb  years ago, lost beneath the waves of his imagination but had to be let out for the first time in the history of Malawi. The paintings showed that they were  made in the 20th-century AD, possibly by the the one I would call the legendary Painter cam lawyer Bruno Matumbi, but here he was again, splitting  new, and contemporary.

The show collapsed time. It put Bruno and Joy on a level (literally: the floor to Board staging was marvelous) There was no chronology and no geographic boundaries. You were simply seeing what artists could make – a liberation from revisionist theories of womanhood  and scholarly arguments – and in particular, what artists could make with their minds against feeble minded persons.

With its tense frown and irascible eyes, these were a miracle of portraits/paintings: a live presence held intact down the centuries in the minds of Malawians. It might have been made by a Renaissance sculptor of unparalleled skill, but was in fact created two local artists . There is no progress in art, as they say, only change. this was the best show I have ever attended for so many years in this country .

Cometh 24^th of may 2013 Crossroads hotel, will be the place to be for the second take of the first of this kind of art in Malawi.

One of the models who requested not to be mentioned, said Regal agency which has been given a task to look for the models for the bankers said, they were offered K2,500.00  to travel 400km from Lilongwe to Blantyre.

The models have felt its an insult  by the bankers and their agent to make an offer which is almost equivalent to $7 for an 8hr shift.

May be the Blantyre models will fall for this trick, but as far as we are concerned no model from Lilongwe is going unless they are coo-koo in their mind ,concluded one of the girls.

Such was the hype and the hoo haa  the former beauty queen got when she   was down with  meningitis. The tabloids went on the  over drive to announce the news that  Miss faith chibale was hospitalized at  the referral hospital in the commercial city of Malawi ,Blantyre.

We decided not to join the band wagon  to blow the fanfare about her illness but we had to take  a different approach by visiting her .

Now we can proudly say and show you that Faith has made a remarkable come back  and is  on her road to  full recovery .

She continued by saying she doesn’t take anything for granted  and is very grateful to everyone who included her in their prayers.

Sighting financial problems and lack of direction from the people who were given the task to run the event,The big kahunas who are calling shots from now onwards,said they  do not see any added value advantage in supporting the event.

One person who did not want to be mentioned  and is in the technical know how when it comes to fashion shows  said,Malawian fashion industry lack direction big time as these events have been targeting the wrong crowd combined with serious deteriorating moral values added to it.

“Almost three-quarters of the models  involved in the industry are locked in some kind of moral drama and the Bunga Bunga which comes with it and has left some serious aspiring models shunning any chances for joining the industry”,said our mole.

With now two events remaining Malawi fashion week and Fame fashion week going head to head everyone is holding their breathe as to see who will blink first……

The source who refused to be mentioned pointed out that the people who were employed  to run the local office had personal interest at hand, not qualified  at some point even with no event management experience.(in Malawi anyone who is on a wedding committee is an event manager)

This time , it is believed that The founder Will Jameson who is in the country to recruit someone who can deliver  and be entrusted with the job as a projects manager and Latitude Hotel is tipped to run the event for them this year.

But the main story is that  the original plan to have lake of stars in the lake district of Mangochi has been quashed  and  plans are at an advanced stage to shift the festival to the capital city  and to re-brand the whole shebang  as CITY OF STARS ditching the dying “lake of stars “name with latitude Luxury hotel in Lilongwe  to be the main partner  dumping the under performing Sunbird hotel Malawi citing some of the main reason to partner with an international hotel brand.

“The whole set up will change as only people with international events management qualifications will be taken seriously and the rest will be opelekeza chabe”,confided this person.

Exactly one minute twelve seconds is all you need to lend your ear to the masterpiece that has been released as an underground song for the masses to hear and we are the first to listen to the song and “trust you me” the song is off the hook and its entitled “OPEN NOTE”.

Talk about the recent  Madonna saga,his political ambitions,all has been well packaged in  what other people would take the singer as a defiant and militant but the wise and the educated would put it as work art…… Truth be told Tay Grin has jerked Malawian hip hop  music into an active political sphere.

Tay Grin is becoming a Self-proclaimed “prophet of rage,”and is  sought to become a major force of social change, disturbing Malawian government ’s complacency with this  highly-charged political statement reminiscent of the peoples cry during the past political  eras gone by.

So why, you may ask, have I decided to bust out of the cleavage closet now? Well, I’d like to claim that I’m doing it in support of those models who have started speaking out about being deemed “too fat” for the runway. (Just to make clear what “fat” means in the fashion world: Three of the models so labeled—Lara Stone, Coco Rocha, and Filippa Hamilton—were five feet ten and a U.S. size 4.) But as much as I admire these young women’s courage, my inspiration came from a rather more improbable source in the country am currently residing for a short while before relocating to another destination of my choice.

Hips, coca-cola bottle shape, figure, fundum,thick madams as they call them in naija-land , what ever you may call them ,Malawian fashion industry had been lacking something  and finally the prayers to many of our beautiful women who have the fuller figures has been answered and it comes in the form of the  one who has to be  watched in terms of new entry designers  this year of our lord 2013 and she  is  only 22yrs, still at school(sukulu ndiyofunika abale,umbuli ndi matenda), an image for the majority of Malawian women and answers by the name Anastasia Naphiyo is one  daring designer who has embraced plus-size fashion………(we not talking zobvala mma ukwati,ayi).

With what I would call is the first designer in Malawi who has managed to get it right with her ready to wear outfits befitting the real Malawian woman(I swear by my children…ooops forgot I don’t have kids). Yes the fuller figure woman.

Her designs can be worn anywhere from the office look or just casual wear and even the one that most women in this country love most..zamma ukwati.

Definitely someone stomach must be turning by the threat of this new girl on the block from the block but trust me this Anastasia girl, is here to stay for a every long time as long as she keeps her feet on the ground  and does not entangle herself in the murky world of fashion. One thing that is to her advantage will be her education as she is in the third year doing her marketing degree at uni and her young age ,for sure she will be able to read and write off , the meat from the chuff ,the good from the bad and the beautiful from the downright ugly…..

One thing that sets this new chicca from the rest of the designers in this country is ,she designs her clothes and wears them and they look good on her, unlike some who design clothes but not wear them…did I tell you that she is beautiful as well? oooh yer ,she is pwettie,pwettie(not pretty….pronounced, phwi-I,phwi-i) too bad to disappoint some lonely guys who had already started salivating all over her pictures, she is in a very serious relationship with one man and not intending to add another man in her life like owning a fleet of vehicles.

Her style ,her colours and her edge, gosh….. this woman  will definitely go places  as her dream is to go into full time designing and modelling  soon after she graduates  since her passion is school first and the rest follows(good girl)

If there is only ONE piece of advice I could give to people in regards to selecting a wedding photographer, it is to find someone that you are compatible with. There are obviously other important factors like price, style, reputation, etc… but to me, there is nothing more important then to find someone who makes you feel 100% comfortable just to be yourself.

Once you have decided on the style, then find a couple of photographers you actually LIKE as people and who make you feel at ease … ever notice how you act differently around strangers then when you are around your friends?  That’s why it so important to choose someone you get along with and could actually see yourself being friends with.

Finally, bring price into the picture (no pun intended). Should there be a k25,000-k50,000 discrepancy in your shortlist of photographers, then go for the cheaper one, haha. But in all seriousness, if the difference isn’t so substantial that it will break your budget, I highly recommend choosing the photographer that will make you feel more comfortable being yourself, even if it means paying a little bit more. You will already have more than enough to deal with on your big day, and the right photographer will help you to handle situations as they arise. The way you feel at any given moment during the day will be captured and remembered for years to come.

I remember to have worked on a photo-shoot  with one renowned photographer called Evie Baluwa in Blantyre, where we had to shoot over 500pictures for three days  looking a what i call a money shot and we came up with only 3 out of the rest and we destroyed them.

some good photographers around Blantyre i have noticed are ;chikondi sinalo,thoko tembo,chipiliro khonje and Malumbo simwaka just to mention a few…..

Thus what i call professional photography
